About Us

After twenty years in church ministry, Jon felt called by God to begin his counseling career in 1995. His first counseling assignment was working as a children’s trauma counselor, which became the focus of his counseling ministry. Many of the children he counseled were in the foster care system.

This experience led for Jon to be selected to develop, license and manage two Therapeutic Foster Care Programs and a 24-bed Therapeutic Girls Group Home from 1998-2003. This included recruiting, training and completing home studies for potential foster homes.

After countless foster care home studies in the public sector, Jon began his own home study agency, Adopt Florida Home Studies, and now devotes himself full-time to helping families adopt children from Florida and throughout the United States. He has worked with families throughout the State of Florida, from Miami to Pensacola. After more than 16 years, Jon has completed over 600 foster and adoption home studies.
Jon is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has been in clinical practice since 1995. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and founded DeFuniak Springs Counseling and Wellness Center, a private mental health counseling practice in beautiful and historic DeFuniak Springs, FL.
Jon graduated from Troy State University in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree in Music & Education and from Troy University in 1995 with a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling (4.0 GPA.) Jon attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary from 1980-84 studying Biblical studies, music and social work. Jon has worked as music, youth and associate pastor in Churches in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana (1978-1998.) He served as Chaplin of a 140 bed convalescent center from 2007-2009.
Jon was born and raised in DeFuniak Springs, FL and is proud to be DeFuniak's "self-appointed" Ambassador. He volunteers on the board of directors of the DeFuniak Springs Visitor's Bureau, is Director of Arts for the Florida Chautauqua Assembly, is a committee member for the Cultural Arts Alliance's A+ Art Exhibit Committee, and is an outspoken advocate of historic preservation in DeFuniak Springs and around the country. He is the author of the successful self-published therapeutic workbook, A Rational and Positive Thinking Model (for substance abuse and anger management groups).
Jon is an Evangelical, Nondenominational Christian and a licensed minister. He currently attends Destiny Worship Center in Destin, FL. Jon's greatest desire and calling for his life is to love people and "meet them at the point of their need" with the love Jesus Christ has for them and their lives.
Jon and his twin sister, Jan, were adopted as infants by the late Arnold and Louise Kinsey.
